Ventotene Offers Taste of Pure Italy


Ventotene an unspoiled island off the west coast of Italy occupies less than a square mile with a length of 3KM and a maximum width of about 800meters. The German garrison used Ventotene Island as a listening post during World War II before they were captured by their enemies in 1943. To get to the center of Ventotene Island one has to walk to Piazza Castello where the town hall sits. To reach Ventotene Island is not a difficult task since ferries are readily available and they run from Napples and Formia thereby making it easy for one to access.

It is a place to consider during trips in Italy if one is interested in swimming. During the day one can choose to sunbathe in one of the main beaches there. Cala Nave is the best beach if one prefers basking for it has black volcanic sand and rock outcroppings making it enjoyable in the intense Mediterranean sun. Diving is never a problem because the aquatic life is undisturbed. More to that there are many diving schools in the island hence one can equip themselves with diving skills. Also there is boat riding giving those who enjoy boat ride an opportunity to have their fun.

There are two major museums in Ventotene Island; Villa Giulia and Archeological museums .something interesting with Villa Giulia is that it is the ancient remains of a structure where Emperor Augustus ’daughter Giulia who was exiled for her immorality was imprisoned. On the other hand Archeological museum holds artifacts that have been uncovered for years on the island.

 


Accommodation

Hotels are affordable since Ventotene has not touched by international tourists hence even the food is not overpriced. The visitors are kept well fed even during peak seasons that run from May to September. It has clear and clean water during on and off seasons hence there are no health hazards attributable to water.

Transport

Ventotene Island is connected by a ferry service to Formia and Anzio a service offered by summer services from and to Ischia once one is here they do not need passport renewal nor a lot of money to enter into the island. Ventotene size is an added advantage which makes it easier to explore the beautiful land. Walking around is cheap since one can walk from one corner to the other easily because of the narrow width.

Whether the aim is to explore the cultural treasures, Museum, a vacation with spouse, friends or family or whatever fun one is planning for Ventotene happens to be a cool place for these events since it has cheap and affordable accommodation and food. One should start organizing for their passport renewal as early as now while planning for a trip to Ventotene, to have a view of structures of the ancient Roman and the extensive rainwater catchment system of channels which serves the island for it happens to have no natural fresh water. Visiting Italy and failing to get into Ventotene is missing a life time opportunity since Ventotene offers taste of pure Italy.
